V2G
Your car can pay you back
Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) turns your EV into a mobile power bank that earns while it's parked, buying power when it's cheap and selling it back when it's dear. It suits private owners looking to offset the cost of their car, and businesses and fleets wanting strong returns, fast workplace charging and a real sustainability story.
V2G isn't widely available in New Zealand yet – two-way chargers are still emerging, vehicle support is limited, and EECA's national trial is only now getting underway. But the software is the hard part, and ours is built and tested. When V2G opens up here, Local can simply switch it on.

WHY V2G PAYS OFF
Earn while you sleep
Your car earns automatically while it's parked, up to $20+ a day just by staying plugged in.
Smart, capable hardware
Up to 25 kW charging, about twice a typical home charger, and an inverter that supports solar too.
A car that pays for itself
Potential earnings of up to $8k a year, plus thousands more saved on fuel and maintenance.
Backup power
Your EV and battery keep the lights on, reducing or eliminating the impact of power cuts.
Help the environment
Support renewable energy, cut fossil-fuel use, and make a big improvement to your carbon footprint.
Local can handle it all
Hardware, installation and app control, all supplied, set up and managed for you.
Earnings are potential and illustrative – they depend on V2G becoming available in New Zealand, on power prices, and on your EV and how it's used.
HOW IT WORKS
V2G lets your car send energy back to the grid instead of only drawing from it – think of your EV as a mobile power bank that earns while you sleep. New Zealand power prices swing through the day, and Local's app automatically buys cheap and sells expensive on your behalf.
